Of Elina Fredrika Christina's father, Jonas Daniel Hogstedt, I know very little except that he was obviously quite a keen amateur painter. My sister has one small flower painting by him and I have two proparbly made by him - a landscape from Skane and another still life of flowers. My mother has a portrait of her grandmother in her wedding dress painted by Jonas Daniel H and I even have a fotograph of her at that time, 1874! ... My mother has also sometimes spoken of an American connection through her grandmothers family ... During the second World War in 1943/44 an American officer was sent to England and worked with General Eisenhower's staff preparing for the invasion of France. My mother thinks his surname was Briggs and that he must have been a fairly senior officer even then. They did communicate either by letter or by telephone but they were not able to meet because he could not get away from his posting. He was connected to the family of her grandmother's brother, presumably Hartelius, and possibly married to ( or perhaps the son of ) one of the daughters of that brother. My mother thinks that the name was Ruth. From your lists I now realise that TWO brothers of my great grandmother emigrated to America ... One of the two, Hjalmar Frithof, who married Edith Olson in 1900 had a daughter of approximately the right age called Ruth. The other brother, Karl Theodor, also had a daughter called Ruth Hannah Elizabeth, born in 1885, listed in your records.
I have found an American Air Force Lieutenant General James E. Briggs, born in 1906, who was posted to Europe( presuably England ) in 1943. He died in 1979 but his USAF biografy notice does not give details of his wife or family. So at present I have no solid evidence that he might be the right person! ....4. "Your excellent list of individuals does not show that my great grandmother (Elina Fredrika Christina Hogstedt) married in Eslov in 1874 Gustav Theodor Scholander, fanjunkare with the Sodra Skanska Infanteriregem. He was the 4th child and second son of Carl Gustaf Scholander who does appear in your list as the father of Nils Henrik Scholander, the older son. Your list shows Carl Gustaf as a Lantbrukare, (farmer?), but my Scholander pedigree book shows him as a Fanjunkare with the Norra Skanska Infanteriregimentet, Eslov. I have found an American Air Force Lieutenant General James E. Briggs, born in 1906, who was posted to Europe( presuably England ) in 1943. He died in 1979 but his USAF biografy notice does not give details of his wife or family. So at present I have no solid evidence that he might be the right person! ....

Of Elina Fredrika Christina's father, Jonas Daniel Hogstedt, I know very little except that he was obviously quite a keen amateur painter. My sister has one small flower painting by him and I have two proparbly made by him - a landscape from Skane and another still life of flowers. My mother has a portrait of her grandmother in her wedding dress painted by Jonas Daniel H and I even have a fotograph of her at that time, 1874! ... .... My mother has also sometimes spoken of an American connection through her grandmothers family ... During the second World War in 1943/44 an American officer was sent to England and worked with General Eisenhower's staff preparing for the invasion of France. My mother thinks his surname was Briggs and that he must have been a fairly senior officer even then. They did communicate either by letter or by telephone but they were not able to meet because he could not get away from his posting. He was connected to the family of her grandmother's brother, presumably Hartelius, and possibly married to ( or perhaps the son of ) one of the daughters of that brother. My mother thinks that the name was Ruth. From your lists I now realise that TWO brothers of my great grandmother emigrated to America ... One of the two, Hjalmar Frithof, who married Edith Olson in 1900 had a daughter of approximately the right age called Ruth. The other brother, Karl Theodor, also had a daughter called Ruth Hannah Elizabeth, born in 1885, listed in your records.

"Your excellent list of individuals does not show that my great grandmother (Elina Fredrika Christina Hogstedt) married in Eslov in 1874 Gustav Theodor Scholander, fanjunkare with the Sodra Skanska Infanteriregem. He was the 4th child and second son of Carl Gustaf Scholander who does appear in your list as the father of Nils Henrik Scholander, the older son. Your list shows Carl Gustaf as a Lantbrukare, (farmer?), but my Scholander pedigree book shows him as a Fanjunkare with the Norra Skanska Infanteriregimentet, Eslov.
